QUAD HELIX

  • Maxillary expansion appliance
  • Allows for anterior and posterior expansion
  • Allows for molars to upright
  • Named Quad Helix due to the four helix or loops

BI-HELIX

  • Mandibular expansion appliance
  • Allows molars to upright
  • Named Bi-Helix due to the two helix or loops

BI-TRANSPALATAL ARCH (BITPA)

  • Maxillary expansion
  • Allows for posterior expansion due to helix
  • Allows molars to upright

HERSBT

  • Used to advance or bring forward the lower jaw.
  • 2 primary designs of a fixed (or non-removable) appliance:
  • Herbst Quad Helix - maxillary anterior and posterior expansion. This creates more "room" for the lower jaw to advance.
  • Herbst BiTpa - maxillary posterior expansion

HUMPHREY

  • Variation of the Nance appliance
  • Aids in the eruption of maxillary molars
  • A button is bonded to the exposed portion of the arm of the appliance
  • Chain is changed until the tooth is in good position to band/bracket and engage with an arch wire.

HYRAX

  • Maxillary palatal expander
  • Used to split the palatal suture on a growing host
  • Creates arch length
  • Is adjusted daily by patient: they turn the jack screw with a "key" to achieve the desired width.

NANCE

  • Maxillary holding arch
  • Hold expansion
  • Provides anchorage
